VDI30 CNC lathe turret alignment test bar

The VDI30 is a precision-ground steel alignment arbor for checking the alignment and runout of a CNC lathe turret that uses the DIN 69880 (ISO 10889) VDI tool holder system. It drops into the turret pocket exactly as a turning tool would, so the bar presents the same axis the turret actually delivers to the workpiece. Sweep a dial indicator along the ground cylinder and any tilt or misalignment in the turret shows up as a changing reading along the length of the bar.

Choosing the right size

The three sizes in this range differ in the VDI shank that fits the turret pocket - a VDI30 bar will not go into a VDI40 pocket, and a VDI40 will not go into a VDI50. The size is stamped on the tool holder you already use: the number engraved on the shank is the VDI size, so check an existing tool before ordering. The supplier's own size code for this item is 30-200.

What is - and is not - supplied

This is the bar itself. The supplier publishes no runout or accuracy figure for it and does not include a calibration certificate or inspection report, so we are not going to quote one for you. If you need a certified reference with documented accuracy for acceptance testing or customer sign-off, buy a certificated bar instead. Trade-standard VDI test bars of this type are commonly quoted at around GBP 494 / 543 / 584 including VAT for the VDI30 / VDI40 / VDI50 (Kintek, each supplied with a calibration certificate and wooden case) and EUR 183 / 203 / 261 (Gedema, certificate available on request). Our price reflects an uncertificated bar, which is a different product from both of those.

Not the same as our spindle test bars

This is a VDI turret alignment bar for CNC lathes. It is not interchangeable with the BT and HSK spindle test bars we also list - those are tapering arbors that check spindle taper runout, where this one checks the alignment of a lathe turret.
